Christopher M. Kane is a member of the New York Bar and is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. District Court in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of International Trade.  Mr. Kane graduated from Adelphi University (B.A., 1974), State University of New York (S.U.N.Y.) Maritime College (M.S., 1978), and New York Law School (J.D., 1982).  He has been a member of the Maritime Bar Association. He was employed at the Federal Maritime Commission for more than fifteen years, where he served as Senior Investigator, Acting Director in the New York and Miami Districts, and as Hearing Counsel at the agency's Washington D.C. Headquarters.

A licensed customs broker, in addition to experience in Customs-related matters, Mr. Kane has expertise in ocean transportation and compliance audit procedures for licensed ocean freight forwarders, NVOCC's, shippers/consignees, and service contracts.  He has served as Counsel to the Association of Steamship Advertising & Promotion and as a member of the faculty of S.U.N.Y. Maritime College, where he taught graduate courses on transportation-related topics, and has spoken at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Exporters and Importers on the topic of Customs Reconciliation Entry Procedures.

Mr. Kane has appeared in the U.S. Court of International Trade and before Canadian Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA Panels.  In 1995, Mr. Kane appeared before the first NAFTA Panel contesting a decision of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  In successfully arguing on behalf of Canadian exporters and U.S. importers before the Panel, Mr. Kane succeeded in having products removed from the effects of the U.S. countervailing duty orders covering live swine from Canada.

In addition to practice before U.S. Customs, the FMC, and the Commerce Department, Mr. Kane has represented clients in matters involving the International Trade Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Food & Drug Administration, U.S. Postal Service, Surface Transportation Board, U.S. Trade Representative, Federal Trade Commission, International Trade Commission, Department of Agriculture, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Fish & Wildlife Service, and the Patent & Trademark Office.

Mr. Kane has written numerous articles on the areas of International Trade and Transportation, which have appeared in World Wide Shipping magazine, Global Trade magazine and other publications.
